Minister of Immigration Ahmed Hussen has officially announced the date of the reopening of the Parent and Grandparent Program (PGP). Applications will reopen from 12:00 pm EST on January 28, 2019. The launch of the PGP in 2019 will include a new and improved application process. The Government took steps to improve an electronic queue (first come, first served) for 2019 and hopes the new program will further improve the quality of customer service by ensuring a fair and easy to use application process for all.

The time for accepting applications will be limited, and then potential sponsors will be invited to submit a full application in turn, until the limit of 20,000 is reached. Among other changes is the requirement for potential sponsors to upload a copy of the status document in Canada when submitting their application.
