Approximately 33% of business owners with paid staff are immigrants, fostering job creation across sectors like construction, professional services, healthcare, and retail trade. Over 600,000 self-employed immigrants, with 260,000 having paid employees, showcase their entrepreneurial spirit.
Arts and Culture:
Canada’s vibrant arts and culture sector, home to over 80,000 immigrant professionals, sees immigrants playing a pivotal role in artistic and creative occupations. One in four artisans or craftspeople and 26% of theatre, fashion, and exhibit designers are immigrants. The arts and culture sector boasts over 3,000 businesses owned by immigrants.
Science and Technology:

Foreign-born individuals constitute 34% of those working in scientific research and development services. Almost 500,000 immigrants in Canada are trained in STEM fields, representing 39% of computer programmers, 41% of engineers, and over 50% of chemists.
Food Services
The food sector, a major employer with 1.16 million employees, faces challenges with unfilled positions. Immigrants, constituting more than 25% of the workforce in the food and beverage sector, play a crucial role. They also represent 53% of all business owners with paid staff in this sector, contributing significantly to its growth.
