On May 21, 2024, Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) began accepting applications for two new immigration initiatives: the Rural Community Immigration Pilot and the Francophone Community Immigration Pilot. These programs aim to attract skilled workers to rural and Francophone minority communities, fostering economic development and addressing demographic challenges.
The initiatives are open to economic development organizations representing their communities, which must demonstrate how immigration can strengthen their local economies. Up to 15 communities will be selected based on economic needs, services for newcomers, and collaboration capabilities.
