In 2023, IRCC introduced new selection criteria for candidates applying through Canada’s Express Entry system. These criteria, focusing on professional experience within in-demand occupations, included a special category for candidates proficient in French. Eligible individuals needed to demonstrate proficiency equivalent to a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 7 or higher in reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
