What Is the International Experience Canada (IEC) Program?
The IEC program allows young adults (typically aged 18-35) from partner countries to live and work in Canadatemporarily, gaining professional experience while exploring Canadian culture.
There are three main categories under IEC:
- Working Holiday: Offers an open work permit allowing participants to work for any employer in Canada.
- Young Professionals: For individuals with a job offer that contributes to their professional development.
- International Co-op (Internship): For students seeking work placements related to their academic programs.
Eligible candidates create an online profile in the IEC pool and await an invitation to apply (ITA) during IRCC’s regular rounds of invitations.
Upcoming IEC 2025 Season Closing and Next Steps
According to IRCC, the final round of invitations for the 2025 IEC season will occur during the week of October 20, 2025. Candidates must submit their profiles by 9:00 a.m. Eastern Time on October 20 to be considered.
If an invitation is received before the season closes, applicants can still proceed with their work permit application even after the pools officially close.
This means that candidates who haven’t yet submitted their IEC profiles should act immediately to secure their chance for 2025 participation before the deadline.
Why You Should Apply for the IEC Program Now
Canada’s IEC program is more than a temporary work opportunity; it’s a gateway to Canadian professional experience that strengthens future immigration prospects. Many participants later transition to permanent residency through programs like Express Entry or Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
With nearly 100,000 invitations issued this year, IEC remains one of the most accessible and rewarding ways for young people to start their Canadian journey.
IEC Program Builds Bridges for Global Youth Talent
The IEC program continues to be a cornerstone of Canada’s international youth mobility strategy. With 4,965 invitations issued between September and October and the season’s final draw approaching, now is the perfect time for eligible candidates to apply.
If you’re planning to work, travel, or gain career experience in Canada, take advantage of the IEC opportunity before the October 20, 2025, deadline.
