Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada opened its first Express Entry Transport draw round in more than two years on August 7, 2026. Express Entry transport draw #434 went out to 300 candidates who had at least twelve months of recent experience in one of four transport-related occupations. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score needed for an invitation was 470, a level this category has never asked for before. It was only the fourth Transport draw since 2023 and the first in over two years, making it a rare but meaningful opportunity for eligible candidates.
For candidates who have been tracking Express Entry category-based draws since 2023, the jump was significant. Earlier Transport rounds cleared candidates at scores in the low 430s. This round asked for nearly forty points more, even while inviting far fewer people than earlier rounds did.
Why Did the CRS Cut-Off Reach 470 This Time?
A few forces likely combined to push the cut-off higher. First, the pool of eligible candidates changed shape. The 2026 version of the Transport category covers a narrower list of occupations than the version used in 2023 and 2024, so fewer profiles qualify to compete in the first place — and the ones who do tend to hold stronger overall profiles, including Canadian education, higher-skill job offers, or provincial nominations.
Second, IRCC has been running smaller, more frequent category-based draws this year, spreading invitations across ten different categories rather than concentrating large volumes in one or two. When a draw is smaller, only the strongest-ranked candidates within that category clear the bar.
For applicants, the takeaway is simple. A Transport occupation alone does not guarantee an invitation. CRS strength across language ability, education, and Canadian work experience still carries real weight.

Which Occupations Qualify Under the Express Entry Transport Draw #434?
Only four occupations currently qualify for a Transport occupations round:
- Aircraft mechanics and aircraft inspectors — NOC 72404
- Air pilots, flight engineers and flying instructors — NOC 72600
- Aircraft instrument, electrical and avionics mechanics, technicians and inspectors — NOC 22313
- Automotive service technicians, truck and bus mechanics, and mechanical repairers — NOC 72410
This is a much shorter list than the version IRCC used between 2023 and 2024, which also included transport truck drivers, transportation managers, railway workers, air traffic controllers, and marine transport officers. If your occupation isn’t on the current list, category-based selection under Transport won’t apply to you this year, though you may still qualify under a different Express Entry program or category.
How Is the 2026 Transport Category Different From 2023 and 2024?
IRCC paused the Transport category for all of 2025, replacing it with a new Education category for that year. When Transport returned on February 18, 2026, it came back with a tighter occupation list and, evidently, a higher bar for entry.
This pattern isn’t unusual. Categories are reviewed and adjusted based on labour market data each year, and 2026 also introduced brand-new categories for physicians with Canadian experience, senior managers with Canadian experience, researchers with Canadian experience, and skilled military recruits, alongside returning categories for French-language proficiency, healthcare, education, STEM, and trades. Several of these 2026 categories haven’t had a dedicated draw yet, which means more rounds, in more categories, are still ahead this year.
What Should Candidates in Transport Occupations Do Next?
If you work in one of the four eligible occupations under the latest express entry transport draw #434 and meet the twelve-month experience requirement, your first step is confirming which Express Entry program you qualify for: Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker, or Federal Skilled Trades, since category eligibility only applies on top of one of these three.
