The increasing number of Chinese international students in Canada

Canadian Association of Colleges and Universities President Paul Davidson said the number of Chinese international students will remain consistent for the following academic year. Chinese international students make up one-third of the total Canadian international student population. Junior high school international students and their families bring in $5 billion in annual revenue for Canada.

If the number of Chinese international students changes, it may severely impact the financial situation of Canadian schools. As of August 2018, there are 570,000 international students residing in Canada. This number has increased by 60% compared to 3 years ago. The majority of these students have completed their high school studies in Canada and then apply for a study visa extension to complete post-secondary education. 67% of international students end up studying in Ontario and 21% in British Columbia.
