Will Express Entry Draws Slow Down for the Rest of 2026?
IRCC has confirmed it is working toward a broader overhaul that would fold the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program, and Federal Skilled Trades Program into a single federal high-skilled immigration stream. If that transition moves forward this year, it’s plausible IRCC pauses draws temporarily while the new system is built out something that has happened during past category changes.
Based on what’s been signalled so far, candidates with genuine Canadian work experience should remain competitive under whatever replaces CEC, but the finer eligibility details haven’t been published yet. We’re watching this closely and will update our guidance the moment IRCC confirms the design.
What Should Candidates With Scores Near 516 Do Now?
If your score sits close to or above 507–518, hold your position and keep your profile current — you’re in a competitive range. If you’re below it, don’t assume you’re stuck. A provincial nomination adds 600 CRS points, which functionally guarantees an invitation at the next round for almost any program. Retaking a language test, adding a second official language, gaining additional skilled work months, or including a spouse’s education and language results can also close a meaningful gap.
Candidates who don’t see a realistic path through Express Entry in the near term should also look at PNP streams and other federal pathways rather than waiting on the sidelines for scores to drop.
