IRCC announced on Twitter that since November 2015, Canada has welcomed 58,600 refugees from Syria. 57% of recently surveyed Syrian newcomers report being employed, while 23% are actively looking for work. This is a significant improvement from employment figures reported in 2016, shortly after the first Syrians arrived as part of this initiative. Many Syrians spoke little or no English or French when they arrived. Since then, 89% have had their language skills assessed and 76% participated in government-funded language training.
