The Alberta Advantage Immigration Program has launched a major Alberta Worker Expression of Interest Update, gave candidates greater flexibility when managing their immigration profiles. The changes allow applicants to edit active Worker Expression of Interest (WEOI) submissions without losing their original validity period. Alberta has also introduced a temporary refund policy for eligible candidates who previously had to cancel and recreate profiles to make corrections.
The update is expected to improve the candidate experience while reducing unnecessary profile withdrawals.
What’s Changing Under Alberta’s New WEOI System?
Until recently, candidates who discovered errors in their Worker Expression of Interest profile often had to cancel their submission and create a new one.
Under the new system:
- Candidates can edit active WEOI profiles.
- Profile validity remains unchanged.
- Candidates may decline unwanted invitations.
- Declining an invitation allows re-entry into the candidate pool.
- The standard 15-day invitation period remains in place.
These changes provide greater control and flexibility for applicants navigating Alberta’s immigration pathways.

Refund Opportunity for Certain Applicants
Alberta has also introduced a limited refund policy
Candidates may request a refund if:
- They created and paid for a WEOI between April 7 and May 26, 2026.
- They cancelled their profile solely to correct information.
However, refunds are not available for candidates who:
- Cancelled during an active invitation round.
- Cancelled solely to update an Express Entry profile.
Why This Update Matters for Immigration Candidates
The Alberta Worker Expression of Interest system plays a key role in selecting candidates for provincial immigration streams.
The new editing feature helps candidates:
- Correct errors quickly.
- Keep their original ranking position.
- Avoid unnecessary fees.
- Maintain eligibility without restarting the process.
For many applicants, this change reduces administrative burden and improves fairness within the selection system.
What Applicants Should Do Next
Candidates currently in the AAIP pool should review their profiles carefully and update any inaccurate information immediately.
Small errors involving employment history, education, language scores, or contact information can affect future invitations.
