Nova Scotia Express Entry Stream
The Nova Scotia Express Entry stream is built for candidates who already have local work experience and want that experience converted into a fast-tracked path to permanent residence. It sits under the same federal Express Entry system that governs most of Canada’s economic immigration, and a nomination through this Provincial Nominee Program stream adds 600 points to your Comprehensive Ranking System score, which effectively guarantees your next invitation to apply.

How Does the Physician Pathway Work?
Physicians follow a separate track within this stream. You need a job offer from Nova Scotia Health Authority or the IWK Health Centre in one of three eligible NOCs, a Letter of Interest issued by the province through the Express Entry portal, and a signed Return for Service Agreement committing to live and work in Nova Scotia for at least two years. Once the Letter of Interest arrives, you have exactly 30 calendar days to submit your Expression of Interest.
| Requirement | Detail |
| Job Offer | NOC 31102 (family physician), 31101 (surgery specialist), 31100 (clinical/lab specialist) |
| Employer | Nova Scotia Health Authority or IWK Health Centre |
| Letter of Interest | Issued by NSNP via the Express Entry portal |
| Return for Service | Signed agreement covering at least 2 years in NS |
| EOI Deadline | 30 calendar days from Letter of Interest issuance |
| Settlement Funds | Required |
- Receive a Letter of Interest from NSNP through the Express Entry portal.
- Submit your Expression of Interest to NSNP within 30 days.
- Receive an Invitation to Apply from NSNP.
- Submit your full application along with the Return for Service Agreement.
- Nomination adds 600 CRS points, leading to a federal Invitation to Apply.
What Changed With EOI Validity Rules?
Effective May 1, 2026, Nova Scotia adjusted how long an Expression of Interest stays active. Anything submitted before May 1, 2024 closes on that date. EOIs submitted between May 2024 and April 2026 stay valid until April 30, 2027. Anything submitted from May 1, 2026 onward is valid for 12 months from the submission date.
| Submission Period | Expiry |
| Before May 1, 2024 | Closed effective May 1, 2026 |
| May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2026 | Active until April 30, 2027 |
| On or after May 1, 2026 | 12 months from submission |
An expired, unselected EOI is not a refusal. If you remain eligible, you can simply submit a new one.
Which Occupations Get Priority?
Nova Scotia sorts candidates into tiers. Healthcare and skilled trades occupations sit in Tier 1 and are open to both domestic candidates and applicants abroad, across TEER 0-4. Natural sciences, education, law, natural resources, agriculture, manufacturing, and utilities occupations sit in Tier 2 but are limited to domestic candidates already in Nova Scotia on temporary status. Tier 3 covers everything else for domestic candidates at TEER 0-2, and TEER 5 occupations are not prioritized at all.
| Tier | Occupations | Candidates |
| Tier 1 | Healthcare (all) plus skilled trades | Both domestic and international, TEER 0-4 |
| Tier 2 | Natural sciences, education/law, natural resources/agriculture, manufacturing/utilities | Domestic only, TEER 0-4 |
| Tier 3 | All other occupations | Domestic only, TEER 0-2 |
| Tier 4 | TEER 5 | Not prioritized |

What Changed on February 18, 2026?

| Change | Detail |
| Consolidation | 10 streams reduced to 4, effective February 18, 2026 |
| Existing EOIs | Remain active, unaffected |
| New EOIs | Follow the four-stream structure |
| EOI Validity | Updated rules effective May 1, 2026 |
Common Questions About Nova Scotia Express Entry
They are the same stream under a new name. What used to be called Experience: Express Entry is now Nova Scotia: Express Entry following the four-stream consolidation.
No, unless you are applying through the Physician pathway. Everyone else needs one year of Nova Scotia work experience and an active Express Entry profile instead.
It is not treated as a refusal. You can submit a fresh EOI as long as you still meet the eligibility requirements, keeping in mind the validity rules that took effect May 1, 2026.
No. The Physician pathway strictly requires an approved opportunity from Nova Scotia Health Authority or IWK, along with proof of licensure and credential eligibility.
TEER 0-1 occupations require CLB 7. TEER 2-3 occupations only require CLB 5.
You have 30 calendar days to submit your Expression of Interest to NSNP, and you will also need to sign a Return for Service Agreement covering at least two years in the province.
